Το MTV ανακοίνωσε δύο μεγάλες αλλαγές στα βραβεία του

Και συγκεκριμένα αλλάζουν τόσο ο τίτλος όσο και οι κατηγορίες του θεσμού. 
Έτσι πλέον τα MTV Movie Awards μετονομάζονται σε MTV Mobie & TV Awards και ο θεσμός θα περιλαμβάνει και υποψηφιότητες και βραβεία για την τηλεόραση (και όχι μόνο το σινεμά) καιθα θυμίζει τις Χρυσές Σφαίρες.
Φυσικά αλλάζουν πολλές κατηγορίες βραβείων και δημιουργούνται νέες, αλλά το πιο σημαντικό είναι πως καταργούνται και τα φύλα στις κατηγορίες. Έτσι πλέον δεν θα έχουμε χωριστά βραβεία για τον καλύτερο ηθοποιό και την καλύτερη ηθοποιό, αλλά θα δούμε άνδρες και γυναίκες ηθοποιοιούς όπως οι φετινοί υποψήφιοι Hugh Jackman και Emma Watson, να είναι υποψήφιοι στην ίδια κατηγορία.Τέλος δύο κατηγορίες βραβείων αποκτούν έντονο πολιτικό ύφος (Best American Story και Best Fight Agaoinst The System) με την πρώτη κτατηγορια να περιλαμβάνει υποψηφιότητες που καταγράφουν την αμερικανική ιστορία και τη δεύτερη ταινίες και τηλεοπτικές σειρές που μάχονται κατά του συστήματος.
